Marketing Communications: SpotCrime

Weiss PR developed a marketing communications campaign relying heavily on national media outreach to help Baltimore-based SpotCrime – the largest independent data and news company mapping crime worldwide – gain market share.

The Problem

To attract new clients and subscribers to its crime mapping service and increase profitability, SpotCrime needed to differentiate itself from several other competitors in the marketplace and position itself as the preeminent company of its kind.

Our Solution/Results

Weiss PR worked closely with SpotCrime to establish strategic partnerships with major media companies nationally, and then publicize those partnerships in traditional and online business media as well as in trade publications covering the media industry and social media (FaceBook, Twitter). As the number of strategic partnerships began to reach a critical mass, Weiss PR shifted strategy, focusing on SpotCrime’s founder and his philosophy, the company’s proprietary technology, and enhancements such as SpotCrime’s iPhone application.

This resulted not only in Weiss PR securing coverage in such well-known national media outlets as Forbes and the nationally syndicated Kim Komando Radio Show, but also in 100 percent growth over the first quarter of 2010. Today, SpotCrime reaches more than 80% of the U.S. population.
